There is nothing I love more than a good smoothie bowl! I could eat them all year long… in fact, I actually DO eat them all year long! As we transition into the colder fall and winter months here on the West Coast of Canada, my smoothie bowl’s are also transitioning into more warming smoothies!
Green smoothies are all the craze these days and while my smoothies may not always look green, they definitely have a lot of green in them! This smoothie bowl recipe is one of my fall-time favourites. It is packed with immune-boosting ingredients – like spinach, pear and ginger – it is energizing yet warms you to the core!
Nutrition-packed avocado makes up the base of this smoothie. Avocados are nutrient-dense and full of lots of fiber, protein, fat and water-soluble vitamins, antioxidant phytochemicals, carotenoids, phytonutrients and much more. Avocados help improve heart health, lower risk for metabolic syndrome and are great for healthy skin, eyes and hair and much more!
Spinach has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant abilities. It is one of the most nutrient-dense foods and is useful in protecting various systems and functions within the body. I love spinach because it has a subtle sweet flavour to it! Tip: Lightly steam or blanch your spinach to make it easier to digest, especially if you suffer from gastrointestinal discomfort.
Pears are a power fiber fruit and comes loaded with immune and antioxidant benefits. Pears not only help lower inflammation, the root cause of disease, they are one of the best sources of dietary fiber in fruits AND pears are an amazing way to prevent colds and coughs from happening during the fall-winter months. They are a cooling food and packed with potent nutrients that energize and moisturize the lung, keeping the area free of bacteria. Pears also have ways to excrete phlegm as well.
Ginger root helps reduce inflammation, improves digestion, reduces nausea among other things. Ginger is a warming herb that is also aromatic and dispersing. If you have ever had a cup of ginger tea, you know it will warm you to the core! Ginger is also considered a drying herb in Traditional Chinese Medicine. I will do a post all about ginger soon!
ACV, short for Apple Cider Vinegar, is also all the rage these days! One of its best-known properties it is supporting gut health and treating acid reflux. It also helps reduce blood sugar levels among other things. Another important point about ACV is that it helps release the iron from the spinach, making it more absorbable in your body.
And of course, another fall favourite, cinnamon! Cinnamon is a powerful spice with a sweet, warming taste. Cinnamon helps balance your blood sugar and can help manage your food cravings.
Maca root is an adaptogen and has a positive effect on hormone balance, energy levels and boosting overall health. Be sure to use gelatinized maca as it is easier on the digestive system.
Toss in your favourite antioxidant rich berries for flavour and top it off with your favourite superfoods, be it cacao nibs, a superfood that boosts energy and burns fat or fiber rich chia seeds or shredded coconut or rolled oats or your choice of nuts and seeds! The possibilities are endless!
When you wake up on a cold fall/winter morning, be sure to give this warming Gingery Pear Smoothie Bowl a try! Let me know how you like it!

We are heading into Summer here in New Zealand and there is so much beautiful fruit to chuck in a smoothie but I really feel dissatisfied when I drink one because I am hungry straight after. I love smoothie bowls because you actually get to eat, haha!
Great read and I will definitely be coming back to your blog.
